Welcome to Wingfield Station 1947 Public Tours!

Join our knowledgeable tour guides for a 90-minute journey through 186 years of the station's history and experience the highs and lows. During the Summer months, we operate public station tours monthly. Our 2026 programme is listed below, along with booking arrangements. We can also arrange guided tours of the station for organised groups and societies on a year-round basis. Please read below for more information on how to organise a group tour. We can also deliver talks on the history of the station to groups and society meetings at other geographic locations.

Tour overview:

Tours are delivered by one or more friendly and expert tour guides. The fascinating story of the station is brought to life through a series of themed inside and outside location stops which cover the following topics:

  • The North Midland Railway story

  • Why is there  a station at Wingfield

  • Station architecture and architect

  • Interior room functions

  • Who worked at the station

  • How did the station change the lives of local people

  • Goods facilities 

  • Why did the station close

  • Life after closure

  • Restoration and new purpose

Tour guides welcome questions and comments during the tour.

Car parking, toilets and refreshments are available for all tours.

A donation of £5 per head is requested.

2026 Public Tours:

Anyone is welcome on a public tour. These tours operate during the Summer months from May to September and the 2026 schedule is below:

  • Thursday 25th June

  • Thursday 23rd July

  • Thursday 27th August

  • Thursday 24th September

All tours commence at 18.30 hours outside the station.

We welcome tours by organised groups and societies at any time of the year.
