Wingfield Station Model Railway

A 4mm scale operational model railway of Wingfield Station has been constructed by volunteers and is located in the Goods shed. The model helps visitors to understand how extensive the railway facilities were at the station plus the variety of trains to be seen.

The model railway is set in the Summer of 1947 and accurately models the following:

  • Station buildings and platforms

  • Goods yard and facilities

  • Goods dock and facilities

  • Station approach road

  • Holme Lane railway bridge

  • Railway embankment south of Holme Lane bridge with multiple tracks

  • Wingfield signal box

  • Oakerthorpe brook

1947 was selected as all Wingfield’s  goods facilities were still operational at that time. It was also the last year of the London Midland and Scottish (LMS) Railway and the height of steam traction.

Although mainly operated as the 1947 LMS railway, special events are featured on the railway including:

  • Famous British trains

  • Luxury trains

  • Wartime trains

  • British Rail era trains

  • Christmas trains
