For hundreds of years, coal mining shaped the communities of South Wingfield and Oakerthorpe.
Join us on a fascinating guided walking tour exploring the remains, routes, and stories of this rich industrial heritage.

Led by knowledgeable local guides, this circular heritage walk brings the area’s mining history to life through surviving landscapes, railway routes, and former colliery sites.

IMPORTANT ‍INFORMATION & FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

TOUR DETAILS

  • Approximate duration: 2 Hours

  • Distance 2.5 miles

  • Route: Circular walk through countryside, woodland and public footpaths

  • Start and finish location: Wingfield Station

Facilities available at Wingfield Station before and after the walk include:

  • Car Parking

  • Toilets

  • Refreshments


MINIMUM FITNESS REQUIREMENTS:

Participants should be able to:

  • Walk and stand for up to 2 hours without sitting

  • Ascend woodland steps unassisted

  • Climb over two footpath stiles unassisted

  • Walk across some uneven ground and woodland paths

  • Walking boots (recommend with ankle protection)

  • Rain protection

  • Walking poles (optional) 

  • Bottle of water

  • Hat or cap
